Our AmeriCorps VISTA project

Volunteer Iowa VISTA team

What is VISTA?

AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a one year, full-time national service commitment to help nonprofit organizations and government agencies fulfill their mission of promoting healthy, educated and engaged communities. VISTA members are committed to fighting poverty through indirect service and capacity building that supports the financial, administrative and organizational health of their host site.

The Volunteer Iowa VISTA project places VISTA members with host sites throughout the state of Iowa, focusing on Education, Economic Opportunity and Healthy Futures initiatives in close collaboration with the Governor’s office to combat poverty in the state of Iowa. VISTA is an excellent opportunity to give back to your community, gain new professional experiences, or fund future education or pay of loans from previous education.

Volunteer Iowa partners with organizations interested in hosting year-long AmeriCorps VISTA members in the following areas:

  • Education and/or economic opportunity in rural communities (population under 50,000 and not adjacent to a city over 50,000)
  • Addressing the opioid epidemic

VISTA members provide a year of full-time service conducting capacity building activities for nonprofits, schools, and government organizations.  Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.  To apply, please review Facts for Host Sites and submit the appropriate application.
