The Volunteer Iowa VISTA Program offers the opportunity for individuals to serve full-time for 1 year gaining valuable experience in a nonprofit, government, or higher education institutions. VISTA members support organizations to make sustainable change in areas that effect poverty through activities such as volunteer management, fund development, research, communication, and much more. VISTA members gain professional experience and leadership skills while immersing themselves in the community where they serve. VISTA prepares you for a life of service in the public, private, or nonprofit sector. Bur Oak Land Trust AmeriCorps Program - Bur Oak Land Trust

Bur Oak Land Trust AmeriCorps members serve to protect and restore Eastern Iowa's natural resources. In the field, members restore critical habitat through prescribed fire and planting native plants, and remove invasive species by mechanical and targeted chemical use to create more biodiverse and resilient ecosystems. Members also engage with the community to connect people to nature by creating maps of Bur Oak properties and leading hiking tours for the public.

College Access & Success AmeriCorps - Iowa College Student Aid Commission

College Access and Success AmeriCorps members assist high school and current college students as they plan for, prepare for and succeed in college. The College Access and Success AmeriCorps Program includes two member roles: Student Leader and College Coach. Current high school seniors from our partner schools serve as student leaders to support and encourage their peers throughout the college-going process, as well as promoting a college-going culture throughout the community. Current college students and recent college graduates serve as virtual college coaches, providing college-going assistance and support to high school and college students through timely text messages and virtual assistance.

Iowa Afterschool STEM AmeriCorps - The Iowa Children's Museum/Iowa After School Alliance

The AmeriCorps members will be responsible for developing new STEM curriculum each month at hosting organizations; conducting monthly STEM family engagement workshops and science fairs; strengthening partnerships with colleges, K-12 schools, youth programs, businesses, schools or community organizations from identified cities with large Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) populations; and engaging youth, families, and site staff in STEM education and career exploration. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage  
volunteers who will assist members with implementing the program goals and engaging with youth.

Iowa Legal Aid is a nonprofit organization providing critical legal assistance to low-income and vulnerable Iowans who have nowhere else to turn. From ILA's 10 regional offices and Courthouse Help Desks, AmeriCorps members provide direct services to ILA's clients and their communities, helping them access legal information, resources and support needed to resolve fundamental civil legal problems. These problems include preventing homelessness, ensuring safety and security to victims of domestic/sexual abuse, maintaining basic income supports, and avoiding unfair debt collection practices.
