Special Funding Opportunity for Iowa AmeriCorps Programs

Technical assistance webinar January 18 at 2:30pm

Des Moines, Iowa – Volunteer Iowa is pleased to announce a special competition for AmeriCorps programs that would operate in either state or national priority areas.  The state priority areas are summer service or afterschool programming, the expansion of existing AmeriCorps program models, or evidence-based and evidence-informed planning grants.  Planning grants help organizations develop plans for an AmeriCorps program addressing any community need.  The national priority areas are prescription drug and opioid abuse, child welfare, and infrastructure.

The application process begins with a brief pre-application due February 13.  Volunteer Iowa staff will provide applicants with feedback and help them with the next phase of the application process.  Interested organizations may participate in a technical assistance webinar on January 18 at 2:30pm.  This is the last opportunity to apply for AmeriCorps State funding for 2018, so new applicants are strongly encouraged.

AmeriCorps is a national service program that helps meet community needs through the efforts of AmeriCorps members.  AmeriCorps programs are hosted by nonprofit organizations, state agencies and local governments, elementary and secondary schools, Indian tribes, colleges and universities, community and faith-based organizations, and intermediary organizations representing a combination of these or similar groups, working together.  The AmeriCorps State program offers different types of funding to meet the needs of various host agencies and communities.

About Volunteer Iowa (or Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service)

Volunteer Iowa and its partner agencies work with organizations and individuals on three main fronts. The first is to help agencies develop quality programs that use service as a strategy to fulfill their missions and address Iowa’s greatest areas of need. The second is to help engage Iowans in their communities by promoting service and expanding the volunteer base. Finally, the third area of work is to connect individuals with appropriate service opportunities by building the volunteer infrastructure. More information is available at volunteeriowa.org.
