Other Ways to Volunteer

Days of Service
The Iowa Commission on Volunteer Services promotes both statewide and nationwide Days of Service.  These are opportunities for volunteers to participate in short-term service activities for a greater cause.  To find out more about the specific Days of Service celebrated by the ICVS, please visit our page with details regarding each day.  These days are a great opportunity for those who do not have a regular place to volunteer or for groups looking to volunteer together.

Volunteer From Home
Not able to leave home to volunteer?  Many agencies offer in-home opportunities, from providing accounting services to stuffing envelopes.  Don’t be afraid to contact an organization that you’d like to help just because you cannot travel to their site.

Our own Iowa Mentoring Partnership also offers the opportunity to become an E-Mentor, using online technology to connect you with a mentee.  Visit our Iowa Mentoring Partnership page (www.iowamentoring.org) and click on the E-Mentoring tab to find out more.

Design Your Own Project
Haven’t found the right volunteer opportunity in your area?  Why not create your own project?  Browse through the do-it-yourself toolkits at Create the Good (http://createthegood.org/diy-toolkits) for ideas and step by step instructions.

Workplace Volunteerism
The Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service (ICVS) partners with companies to promote volunteerism within the workplace.  For more information regarding Workplace Volunteerism, please contact ICVS at 1.800.308.5987 (in the Des Moines area, 515.725.3095) or by email at icvs@iowa.gov.
