Wesleyan College Reachs Out to Their Community on MLK Day
Mount Pleasant, IA

Iowa Wesleyan College students, faculty, and staff joined together with Mount Pleasant community members to bake banana bread for three area assisted living facilities and local food pantry. In total, 16 people volunteered a total of 33 hours to bake over 50 loaves of bread to be distributed that day.

Following the bread baking, volunteers were to participate in a planned round table discussion with US Congressman Dave Loebsack for the IWC community and residents of Mount Pleasant to discuss why service is a vital part of a community; however, this part of the event had to be rescheduled for the spring due to the weather.

Wesleyan College's Day of Service project was concluded with the viewing of the film, Citizen King, which reflected on the last five years of Dr. King's life. After the film, a facilitated reflection about the legacy of Dr. King and service was held.
