2nd Annual “Let Freedom Ring! Rhythm, Soul and the Dream”
Davenport, IA

AmeriCorps members in the Davenport area put on their 2nd Annual MLK Day project called “Let Freedom Ring! Rhythm, Soul and the Dream.” AmeriCorps members once again collaborated with multiple community agencies, such as the River Music Experience who provided their hall space for the performance. Another group that provided assistance was the AmeriCorps Alums national office and local chapter members who helped plan and implement the event.

This event ran a couple hours in the afternoon and attracted over 65 people who took part in helping remember, honor, and celebrate Dr. King and his great accomplishments. The children in the audience participated by making musical instruments out of recycled material (shakers, rain sticks and drums) and later played their musical instruments in a drum circle. The main event of the day was a short program on Martin Luther King, Jr. and how he influenced music during his time, in particular Jazz and Blues music and performers.
