Youth Make Blankets for Project Linus
Ames, IA

The Volunteer Center of Story County (VCSC) worked with United Ames, the Ames Public Library, and Project Linus to plan the MLK Day service event in Ames. Through this partnership, they were able to engage 71 volunteers in making fleece blankets that were donated through Project Linus to the Youth and Shelter Services GRIP Mentoring Program. The 71 volunteers contributed a total of 106.5 hours to make a total of 77 fleece blankets.

AmeZone, the youth service learning group that VCSC facilitates with United Ames, worked on planning, publicizing the event, and engage youth volunteers. There were 10 youth from AmeZone, 7 from Youth and Shelter Services, and a number of youth from Story County Youth Philanthropists, the Public Library's Teen Advisory Group, and the GRIP Mentoring Program who participated in this event.
