K-12 Learn and Serve
If there is not an opportunity to participate in service-learning at your school,
there are still many opportunities to get involved in the community.
- Youth Service America (YSA.org) offers many opportunities to get involved. Visit
their website to find out about these opportunities. A few things to keep an eye
out for are:
- Aaron Eilert’s Day—this is a Day of Service recognized all across Iowa. There are
many opportunities to get involved on this day.
- Global Youth Service Day—this is a nationally celebrated day in which many activities
are offered to get involved.

- Learn and Serve America (www.learnandserve.gov) is a K-12 school-based program that
engages students in service-learning programs.
- Opportunities are offered to youth ages 5 to 17 and children with disabilities.
- Youth Engagement Zone (www.servicelearning.org/topic/youth_engagement_zones ) is a campaign to inspire a new
wave of volunteer service in America—sign up online to receive information about
service events near you.
