K - 12 Learn and Serve for Organizations

CommServ grants — Iowa’s Learn and Serve America K-12 School-Based Grants—are administered by the Iowa Department of Education (IDE) and awarded annually in the fall.

• CommServe provides funding and support to local school districts and adult volunteer organizations interested in developing or expanding community service-learning opportunities for teachers, administrators and students.

Youth Engagement Zones—are service-learning programs in which members of an eligible partnership collaborate to provide coordinated school-based or community-based service-learning opportunities.  Grants are awarded annually in the spring.

• Programs are local educational agencies where all of the secondary schools implement service-learning as part of the curriculum and where at least 90 percent of students are involved in service-learning activities.
