Summer Youth Corps and Green Corps Administrative Rules

Last spring, the Iowa legislature unanimously passed a bill authorizing the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service (ICVS) to create two new programs:

  • Iowa Summer Youth Corps — A new program to provide youth with meaningful community service opportunities, along with instruction and reflection activities to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities.

  • Green Corps — A new program to provide youth with meaningful community service opportunities, in addition to providing capacity-building activities, training, and implementation of major transformative projects that emphasize energy efficiency, historic preservation, neighborhood development, and storm water reduction and management.

The Iowa Administrative Code has been updated to establish these two new ICVS programs.  To read the Summer Youth Corps and Green Corps rules, search the Iowa Administrative Code for the program name.  A public hearing will take place on Oct. 15, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Iowa Department of Economic Development for any person to present their views on this topic either orally or in writing. (Attendees are asked to confine their remarks to the subject of the rules).  This is a public hearing and all are welcome to attend.  For more information, contact Karen Crosby at karen.crosby@iowa.gov or 515.725.3098.
