The Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service is encouraging anyone who is interested in serving as a AmeriCorps*VISTA summer associate or as an AmeriCorps*state member providing disaster response to go to the following website to register: www.americorps.gov/for_individuals/ready/index.asp.

You can help by volunteering for the AmeriCorps*VISTA program. VISTA members will provide support to the collaborative flood relief effort. They will assist with volunteer recruitment and mobilization, providing necessary leadership to community-wide efforts. Specific needs of the community will be identified and strategies will be developed to meet these needs. To apply, go to www.americorps.gov/for_individuals/ready/index.asp and follow these steps:

  • Step One — choose "Disaster Relief"
  • Step Two —choose “Iowa”
  • Step Three —look for postings with the title “Iowa VISTA Disaster Corps”
  • Step Four — click on the posting title link and then the “Apply Now” button to complete the process.

Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service — Iowa VISTA Disaster Corps

We are offering four motivated, energetic individuals the opportunity to spend a year serving in Des Moines as AmeriCorps*VISTA (domestic Peace Corps) members. Gain valuable experience and new skills while supporting disaster recovery and preparedness on a statewide basis.

These are full-time, 12-month positions, three based in Des Moines, and one based in Waterloo, IA, starting November 17, 2008. Members must be US Citizens or Permanent Residents, at least 18 years of age, self-starters and possess a valid driver's license, as travel will be required. VISTA members serve full-time for one year and receive a lifetime of experience.
