The Corporation for National and Community Service (i.e. The Corporation, or CNCS) is a Federal agency that provides opportunities for Americans of all ages and backgrounds to serve their communities and country through three programs: Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, and Learn and Serve America. Members and volunteers serve with national and community nonprofit organizations, faith-based groups, schools and local agencies to help meet community needs in education, the environment, public safety, homeland security and other critical areas. The Corporation (www.cncs.gov) is part of USA Freedom Corps, a White House initiative to foster a culture of citizenship, service and responsibility, and help all Americans answer the President's Call to Service.
Mission
The Corporation’s mission is to provide opportunities for Americans of all ages and backgrounds to engage in service that addresses the nation’s educational, public safety, environmental and other human needs to achieve direct and demonstrable results and to encourage all Americans to engage in such service. In doing so, the Corporation will foster civic responsibility, strengthen the ties that bind us together as a people and provide educational opportunity for those who make a substantial commitment to service.
Vision
We envision a nation in which service is promoted and valued by educational, religious, government institutions, business and labor, nonprofit organizations, and individuals, families, and communities throughout the nation. Problems in communities are being solved through service—and service is a part of problem solving initiatives in education, public safety, the environment, and other human needs.
