Public Safety AmeriCorps Programs in Iowa
American Red Cross Community Disaster Education (CDE)
Disaster Response/Education
Statewide
Seven full-time and five part-time AmeriCorps members will cover strategic geographical areas of the State of Iowa and be assigned to local Red Cross chapters that will act as host sites. Members will work through local schools and communities to implement the Masters of Disaster/Facing Fear program in their area. Each member, in coordination with the host site, will develop a strategy for targeting schools and community groups. Members will present CDE programming, reaching the targeted population of youth within the school system. Communities will also be provided CDE information by AmeriCorps members giving presentations to business, faith-based groups and other civic organizations.
Members will serve on a Disaster Action Team (DAT) which assesses the needs of individuals affected by single family fires and assists with their immediate disaster-caused needs. They may also be deployed in the event of a national or state disaster.
