Environment AmeriCorps Projects in Iowa
Eastern Iowa Conservation Alliance
The Eastern Iowa Conservation Alliance (EICA) provides AmeriCorps members with an opportunity to serve in the natural resources and environmental education field. Members serve as educators and natural resource technicians in county parks and nature centers throughout many of Iowa’s Eastern counties. Members help in addressing Iowa’s needs for environmental education, volunteer and recreational development, and natural resource restoration projects.
The EICA mission is to restore, maintain, and manage public lands in Easter Iowa to improve access, awareness, appreciation and enjoyment of their value, history and beauty. This mission reflects the missions of the member county conservation boards of EICA. It is consistent with the Governor's Strategic Planning Council goal to preserve and protect natural resources and to improve Iowan's appreciation for their land.

Keepers of the Land AmeriCorps
The Keepers of the Land AmeriCorps program supports the mission of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources in conserving and enhancing Iowa*s natural resources in cooperation with individuals and organizations to improve the quality of life in Iowa and ensure a legacy for future generations. Iowans have been become increasingly more involved in the active and hands-on management and conservation of natural resources, specifically in terms of community empowerment and volunteerism.
The 52 members of the Keepers of the Land AmeriCorps program play a vital role in the department*s statewide community empowerment efforts. Members* specialized talents assist the Department in natural resource protection, in helping Iowans discover their own personal environmental connection, and assisting them in finding the means to become environmental stewards in their communities.
Members perform service activities across the state that address Iowa*s most pressing management, conservation, and environmental needs with a primary focus concentrating on reconnecting Iowans to their natural world and making them empowered citizens within it. Members themselves work as environmental stewards through their involvement in volunteer recruitment and training, hands-on ecosystem management, and environmental education. They work at sites across the state cooperatively with federal, state, and local governments, private landowners, conservation organizations, and community groups.
